We are people from across the UK who cherish the universal principles of equality, justice, and peace affirmed by the United Nations Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; we respect the rights of all peoples and oppose all forms of violence, exploitation, and discrimination.
Our purpose is to enable and support a new generation of Independent Parliamentary Candidates to gain seats in future by-elections and general elections.
We recognise the stranglehold of ‘elite capture’ that has and continues to frustrate the role of politics in our country. The corporatisation of party politics has diminished its purpose by enabling corruption, inequality, poverty, and discontent. Independent thought is currently controlled through the party whip, and Members of Parliament are often forced to vote against their constituents’ views and demands.
Political Parties Have Become A Barrier To Democracy.
A historically low turnout at the 2024 general election further proves voter disenchantment. The voter turnout for the UK’s general election in 2024 was estimated to be 60%, the lowest since 2001 when it was 59%. Yet, six Independent Candidates were elected as Members of Parliament with only a six-week campaign from a standing start.
By the next general election, we will have a loose coalition of Independent Candidates, contesting every constituency, selected directly by their constituents to take on all the political parties.
Each candidate under our banner will stand on a platform according to the needs of their constituency and with a clear understanding of our ultimate aims and values:
- Elect a majority of at least 326 Independent MPs to Parliament to change the voting system to a Direct Democracy, like the Swiss model, where the people make decisions.
- Putting the public interest first by tackling constituents’ major material and existential issues.
- Always act with honesty and conviction to uphold the reputation of the Independent Coalition.
- Commit to working with and supporting all other Independent Candidates who sign this Declaration.
