Mission Statement

Our mission is to free up people in politics to serve the UK public better.

The case for a more independent politics:

Our politics isn’t working for local communities up and down the country, and successive governments continue to fail to work in the public interest.

The very nature of our political parties discourages Members of Parliament from working towards the needs and concerns of their constituents. Political parties wield too much control over elected MPs, using tactics like party whips to enforce strict obedience. This limits MPs’ independence and undermines their ability to serve their constituents.

The party whip controls the moral and material judgment of individual MPs and often denies them the ability to vote for the good of their constituents. This can frustrate politicians who want to listen to their communities and only serves to dilute our democracy. What’s the point in voting for an MP if they are prevented from voting in your interest?

We at the Independent Coalition are experienced politicians and analysts who understand our politics can only improve if we strengthen democracy by liberating politicians from vested party interests and elite capture.

The first step to achieving this political emancipation is to elect more Independent MPs into parliament. True democracy demands politicians –who aren’t beholden to any political party and who are solely focused on serving their constituents.

The historic success of independent MPs in the 2024 general election has demonstrated a genuine public appetite for this simple yet radical idea, which we aim to build on.

The Party is Over. Join our national movement for more independent politics and be free to work in the interest of our people and our country.
